700 Continuous Days

Benner & White Construction, Inc recently celebrated 700 continuous days without a lost time accident or injury. If we stay on track, we will soon achieve 2 years without a lost time accident or injury. This is a huge accomplishment for us! Everyone in the Company has worked hard to not only improve with safety, but to work as a team safely, and continue to change the safety culture of our company. Benner & White has maintained an EMR well below the industry standard of 1.00 and is currently at 0.759.

In addition, Benner & White is entering their 5th year as partners with OSHA and has worked closely with OSHA representatives to strengthen their safety program. Some other strategies to improve safety at B&W include: ABC STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process) recipients for over 15 years, monthly attendance at ABC safety meeting, networking with other safety minded companies, target to have every B&W employee OSHA10 certified nearly complete, weekly Tool Box Talks, weekly jobsite inspections, and constantly seeking feedback to improve the safety program at B&W. Our Goal Is Every Employee Returns Home Safely and we will continue to work hard to make sure this goal is strategically achieved.

St. Gobain Brings Home an Eagle!

Benner & White was pleased to win two awards for excellence at this years ABC East PA awards gala for their work on the 320,000 SF Saint Gobain North American Headquarters project. The first category in “Specialty Finishes Interior/Exterior”, and the second category in “Greenbuild Award”. Saint Gobain is Platinum LEED certified for both the core and shell and the commercial interior.

Our scope included: metal stud framing, drywall, insulation, doors/frames/hardware, acoustical ceilings/clouds/wall panels, & specialty ceilings.  At its peak there were over 100 carpenters working from our company.   It was an honor to complete the project in time for the oldest company in the world to celebrate their grand opening on the day of their 350th anniversary.

We would like to thank every employee at Benner & White. It is because of every hard working man and woman on these sites, and others in our company, that we are able to create buildings worthy of awards like this.  We would also like to recognize Benner & White estimator/project manager James Brown, project Superintendent John Engler and project Foreman Jay Wilson as well as exterior composite panel lead Al Wilson. In addition to all of the Saint Gobain representatives including Tamara Mueller who helped us achieve this milestone. This was truly a team effort and could not have been done without the help of many talented, hardworking and committed people. Exterior Cladding Projects

For almost 40 years, Benner & White has been a preferred contractor not only for our quality workmanship and dependability to finish a job on time; but also our ability to offer a broad scope of work that encompasses the total building construction.  We have expanded our scope over the last 20 years to include various forms of exterior cladding and rain screen systems in addition to walls and ceilings.  Looking back at our progression it is interesting to take a look at one of our first cladding jobs, and then nearly 20 years later to have the opportunity to work on a new project in the next lot, and to see the original building still looking as good as it did when we were first onsite.

As wall assemblies have evolved in aesthetics and complexity, the standards for protecting the building skin has evolved as well with high performance air barriers being the standard. However, critical details such as flashing and caulk can be lost between the different trades if there are multiple contractors working on the exterior of the building that come back as leaks. We prefer to package the entire wall assembly; studs, sheathing, waterproofing, insulation, and cladding; and create a one stop shop for all things carpentry to minimize finger pointing and control the construction process.

We have worked together with many of the area’s leading façade consultants, window, roofing and masonry contractors and are knowledgeable not only on our own details but those of the adjacent construction.

Benner & White is happy to quote your next façade project. Weather it is Aluminum Panels, Porcelain Rain Screen, Phenolic Panels, or something you have never heard before give us a call. Besides an accurate, competitive quote we provide engineered drawings, field verification, and properly fabricated and installed end product.

Harrison Hill Retirement

In the fall of 2013, Benner & White teamed up with Baxter Properties to construct a 5 story, 126,000 square foot retirement community. The project is located in West Chester and just recently opened In August. This facility is designed for active adults over the age of 55.

This project consisted of prefabricated, heavy-gauge metal stud bearing & shear walls that were hoisted into place allowing us to complete each floor’s framing in about one week. The tight schedule was executed with precise panel construction by Frameco Building Systems. Along with supplying and installing the bearing walls, our scope consisted of metal roof trusses, interior metal stud framing, fire treated blocking, sheathing, Tyvek, flashings, insulation, drywall and acoustical ceilings. We also installed over 300 windows and approx. 1,200 doors. With Benner & White taking on a full carpentry package like this, the G.C. can more easily control the schedule and keep their project flowing effectively, minimizing the headaches of coordinating multiple contractors.

Key players on this project included project Foreman Bob Engler, project Superintendent John Engler and Estimator/Project Manager Greg Landis. B&W’s entire crew on this project worked skillfully and diligently to make sure that Baxter’s vision was properly executed. To view a slideshow, please click here to go to our website.

Lourdes Health System

This 54,000 SF modern state of the art, energy efficient satellite ambulatory center is the primary office for Lourdes Cardiology Services and will have physician offices for orthopedics, sports medicine, rheumatology and podiatry as well as a conference/education center.  This project represents an innovative adaptive reuse project: the existing building, a single story big box has had multiple reincarnations, starting as a supermarket.  The big box concept lends itself well to re-purposing for healthcare because the large structural bays and high roof structure offer the highest degree of planning flexibility. Construction began at Lourdes in May of 2012 and was handed over to the owners in January of 2013 in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Benner & White’s key players on this project included job foreman Conrad Praediger, field manager Bob Cardillo, estimator/project manager Kimberly Marino and finishing superintendent Darrel Asbury. Together we have worked diligently with General Contractor The Norwood Company and the Architect Environetics to ensure that the vision of Lourdes Health System was properly executed with high quality service and attention to detail.

Benner and White’s scope of work included general carpentry, metal studs, drywall, acoustical ceilings, linear wood ceilings, composite metal panels, corrugated roof screen.

Blessed Theresa of Calcutta

The vision of Blessed Theresa of Calcutta (BTOC) church as it sits on the rolling hills of Limerick, is one that attracts the interest of all who pass by. BTOC is a masterpiece of ecclesiastical art that is taken from numerous surrounding churches which have closed and been consolidated into one new, beautiful house of worship. This is the 59th church/place of worship that B&W has completed in their 35 years in business. This architecturally challenging structure is 20,000 square feet and reaches to 105 feet at the top of the cross. The total duration of the project took 17 months to complete. The plastering, aerial beams and column covers add a beautiful touch to this state of the art Catholic Cathedral. It is definitely worth a trip out to visit and witness the fine craftsmanship and detail put into this project.
